Regional Event - Waterford: ‘Driving Excellence in Health & Human Performance’

'Driving Excellence in Health & Human Performance' is the theme for this alumni regional event with three elements to the morning session along with a tour of the high performance area in the Department of Sport & Exercise Science at SETU Arena.

1. 'Lessons and Insights from High Performance Sport' - session with Dr Ciara Losty sharing strategies and insights used by high performance sports people which can be applied in everyday life – lessons from the Olympics, Paralympics and horse racing.

2. 'Getting to and maintaining a Zero Trolley status' - session with Ben O'Sullivan, General Manager of University Hospital Waterford, who will share leadership insights on the challenges of running a large teaching hospital and striving for operational excellence while facing significant pressures in the health system.

3. 'Igniting the Entrepreneurial Spark' - session with John O'Connor, CEO Kollect, ALP 2022, and ambassador for the Growth Hub at SETU.

Tea/coffee available from 9.30am at SETU Arena and free parking at the venue.

Participants are invited to stay for a light lunch and networking opportunity at 12.30.


Dr Ciara Losty

Sports psychologist and course leader in Dept Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology at SETU. Cíara was the lead sports psychologist for Team Ireland for the Paralympic Games for Paris 2024, and was part of Team Ireland sport science and medical team for the Paris 2024, Tokyo 2020 and London 2012 Olympics. She is also the sports psychologist for the Jockey Pathway and works with all licenced professional and amateur jockeys in Ireland and has researched and supervised PhDs in the area of jockeys mental health and wellbeing.


Ben O'Sullivan
General Manager University Hospital Waterford & Kilcreene Regional Orthopaedic Hospital. Before joining the HSE, Ben worked in the private sector providing operational and project management to clients across the public and private healthcare sector. With over 2,800 employees UHW is one of the largest employers in the South East and has seen a 40% uplift in staffing levels over the past 5 years. UHW is the regional model 4 hospital, providing services across 27 specialties and responsible for the delivery of Cancer Services in the South East.


John O'Connor 
CEO and co-founder of Kollect and a serial entrepreneur with 15 years’ experience running various start-up companies with online, retail and waste emphasis. John is a thought leader in the waste management sector, regularly speaking at industry events and contributing to key conversations about the future of waste management. Kollect is a NASDAQ-listed company operating in Ireland and the UK with the mission “to create simple ways to have all waste collected and recycled globally”
